Job Opening: Learner Fire Fighter at City of Cape Town

Eligibility: Internal & External Closing Date: 13.02.2023 Reference Number: SS 07/23 Ext Salary: Basic Salary – R189 127 per Department: Fire Services Directorate: Safety and Security

Requirements:

  • Grade 12 qualification (Mathematics and Physical Science preferred)
  • 18 years or older
  • No fear of confined spaces or heights
  • Medically and physically fit
  • Ability to work in a team and handle stressful situations
  • No criminal record
  • Successful completion of Firefighter 1 NFPA 1001, Hazmat Awareness NFPA 1072, Hazmat Operations NFPA 1072 and First Aid Level 3 courses.

Key Performance Areas:

  • Pass compulsory fitness test (Reach test, 2.4 km run, Push-ups, Sit-ups, Dead load carries)
  • Pass written assessment and interview
  • Submit fingerprints or identity numbers for criminal record check
  • Undergo City medical evaluation
  • Pass compulsory drug test at City testing center
  • Pass claustrophobia and acrophobia test

Special Conditions:

  • Non-permanent contract position for duration of training
  • Appointment to permanent Learner Fire Fighter position upon successful completion of training programme
  • Required to wear uniform and protective clothing
