Job Overview 

Are you passionate about the world of theatre and live event production? Joburg City Theatres (JCT), a proud entity of the City of Johannesburg, is inviting unemployed youth to apply for the NC Technical Live Event Learnership Programme. This opportunity is part of JCT’s commitment to skills development and youth empowerment in Johannesburg.

Through this learnership, 20 young people will be selected to gain both classroom training and hands-on work experience in the technical aspects of live events — including sound, lighting, and stage production. The programme is designed to help participants build real-world skills and earn a nationally recognized NQF Level 4 qualification.

Minimum Requirements

To be considered for the Technical Live Event Learnership, applicants must:

  • Have passed Grade 10, 11, or 12 only
  • Be unemployed and aged between 18 and 35 years
  • Be a permanent resident of the City of Johannesburg
  • Show a passion for technical live event production
  • Have good communication and interpersonal skills
  • Be able to provide proof of residence (e.g. letter from Ward Councillor)
  • Have no criminal record
  • Be fluent in English (spoken and written)

Knowledge & Skills Required

The ideal candidates should:

  • Be eager to learn about sound, lighting, and stage setup
  • Demonstrate interest in the entertainment or events industry
  • Work well in a team and under pressure
  • Be punctual, reliable, and committed
  • Be willing to transport themselves to and from the workplace

Key Duties and Responsibilities

As part of the NC Technical Live Event Learnership , you will:

  • Attend classroom-based training sessions
  • Participate in real-life technical event setups at Joburg Theatre
  • Learn how to operate stage equipment, lighting systems, and sound tools
  • Assist with backstage support and live event logistics
  • Work alongside professionals to gain hands-on experience

Upon successful completion, you’ll earn an NQF Level 4 qualification in technical live event production — opening doors in the entertainment, media, and events industries.

  • You will not be employed permanently after the programme, but the experience and qualification can boost your employability
