Position Purpose:
The Technical Learnerships Programme 2025 offers structured on-the-job training, mentorship, and practical experience to recently qualified apprentices, helping them transition into professional technical roles within Transnet.

Minimum Requirements

Pattern Maker (req3725):

  • Pattern Maker Trade Test Certificate
  • Trade tested within the past 4 years
  • Youth aged 18–35
  • Less than 1 year work experience

Motor Mechanic (req3722):

  • Motor Mechanic Trade Test Certificate
  • Trade tested within the past 4 years
  • Youth aged 18–35
  • Less than 1 year work experience

Plumber (req3721):

  • Plumber Trade Test Certificate
  • Trade tested within the past 4 years
  • Youth aged 18–35
  • Less than 1 year work experience

Knowledge & Skills Required

  • Beginner: Basic understanding of tools and safety procedures
  • Intermediate: Perform tasks independently with minimal supervision
  • Advanced: Expert-level skills, able to supervise or train others
  • Self-motivated, responsible, and committed
  • Punctual, professional, and safety-conscious

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Participate fully in the 24-month Technical Learnerships Programme 2025
  • Perform routine maintenance and repairs in the assigned trade
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot technical issues
  • Ensure compliance with safety and quality standards
  • Maintain tools and equipment in excellent condition
  • Document work performed and report to supervisors

  • Full-time participation for 24 months is required
  • Programme aligns with Transnet’s Youth Development and Employment Equity objectives
