Job Overview

South African National Parks (SANParks) invites applications for Semi-Skilled Environmental Monitor positions within the Biodiversity Social Projects Environmental Monitor Programme at Agulhas National Park. This is a fixed-term contract running until 31 March 2026. Minimum Requirements

  • Grade 12 / NCV Level 4 (Standard 10)
  • Interest in working in a nature conservation environment
  • Good communication skills
  • Willingness to work flexible hours including weekends and after hours
  • Good physical health for field duties (medical fitness required)
  • Understanding of basic Health & Safety principles
  • No criminal record (SAPS verification required)
  • Computer literacy (advantageous)
  • Basic firefighting training (advantageous)
  • Age preference: 18–35 years

Key Duties and Responsibilities

The Semi-Skilled Environmental Monitor position entails the following:

  • Assist with management of tools, equipment, vehicles, infrastructure, herbicide, stock control, and asset management
  • Manage in-field administration including timesheets, H&S checklists, logbooks, and reports
  • Monitor and record resource management data
  • Handle and resolve conflicts, providing support and motivation to contractors
  • Assist with fire management and related duties
  • Fence integrity monitoring and basic maintenance
  • Ecological monitoring, restoration, and invasive alien species clearing
  • Waste management reporting and programme support
  • Participate in community and environmental awareness programmes
  • Assist with conservation activities as required
  • Perform ad-hoc duties when necessary
