Requirements
Applicants for Water Control Aid Jobs must have:
- NQF Level 2 qualification
OR - Senior Certificate / Grade 12 / AET or higher qualification (added advantage)
- Good verbal, reading, and writing skills
- Basic knowledge of water distribution for government water works
- Basic understanding of occupational health and safety
- Basic knowledge of flood control
- Basic understanding of record keeping
Key Responsibilities
The responsibilities for Water Control Aid Jobs include:
- Opening and closing sluices according to scheme regulations
- Handling water distribution sheets
- Performing minor maintenance on structures, fencing, and sluices
- Assisting with opening blocked pipes and canals
- Removing algae and water grass from canals
- Conducting daily inspections of water systems
- Reporting holes on embankments and irregularities on canals to the Water Control Officer
- Reporting cracks in measuring structures and other defects
- Reporting stagnant water on embankments
- Painting sluices and long weir sluices
- Ensuring sluice numbers are clearly marked
- Keeping canal grids and gauge plates clean
- Keeping structures and surroundings clean
- Keeping inlet holes to measuring boxes open
- Cleaning and locking post boxes
- Repairing minor washouts
- Maintaining equipment and securing storage areas
